Albatross Inn Bed and Breakfast

I've stayed here plenty of times because I come to Dunedin often, and I remember it being better. It has a quaint, old-fashioned feel, but now seems neglected. Simple things like coffee and milk in the rooms are missing, it's a bit dirty and dated, and the hosts don't seem to care. Maybe ownership has changed. I'm not fussy, though, and it's cheap, so I'll probably be back.

The location is the main plus. The place feels run down, and the website photos make it look much better than it is. No room had a bath, despite the pictures showing one. The towels were the thinnest we've ever seen, and breakfast wasn't served, with a bogus COVID excuse. The beds were just okay and getting old.

The breakfast was amazing, and the place feels like home. It's a quaint little spot with a beautiful atmosphere, and Glynis, the keeper, is really friendly. One issue at night is that you can hear toilets flushing and showers from upstairs in every ground-floor room. The building walls are thin, and it can be disturbing.

The included breakfast had homemade yoghurt, bread, and preserves, and the cosy rooms were comfortable. It's a characterful place with history, a nice alternative to a big city hotel. The visitor book showed plenty of repeat guests, and I'd certainly come back. It's also very convenient for the University and Otago Museum.
