Dear Donkey Bay Inn, I came because of the yellow tunnel and the bath in the suite we didn't end up staying in. We had such an extraordinary time that we've already booked another visit. The place is remarkable, and there's nothing I could fault, though I was a little disappointed the Pizza Oven wasn't in service. The staff were friendly, helpful and sassy in just the right mix. I made our tea and helped myself to ice from the fridge without anyone frowning, and the other guests were delightful. The beach is a Naturist beach, which gives summer some delicious potential, and Russell was delightful too. I should mention that I'd had quite a reasonable amount of your fabulous Penny Rose Rose before writing this. Personally, I think it clarified my thoughts. All in all, it was a perfect getaway and one we'll repeat.

The views are breathtaking, and the place feels wonderfully private, with space for no more than four couples. This is the most unique hidden gem I've stayed in, and probably the best. Antonio and Amelia were fantastic hosts. We felt as if we were staying with lifelong friends. It's luxurious boutique accommodation and a great place to get away for a while. You'll struggle to find better.

Amelia was the best part of our stay, a natural host who looked after us exceptionally well and made everything feel special. Antonio has created an incredible space at Donkey Bay Inn, with phenomenal views, a beautiful house and great amenities. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to return. WOW, this place is AMAZING!

Breakfast was delicious, and on crisp mornings the heated floors in the main dining and living area were a lovely touch. Our hosts were kind, courteous and welcoming, and happy to answer questions about the property, town and surrounding area. They also included transfers to and from dinner in town in a vintage Rolls Royce with a driver. Donkey Bay Inn feels like a private, secluded home away from home. The four luxury guest rooms each have a balcony overlooking Donkey Bay and the private naturalist beach, and each is decorated with its own distinctive pieces. Bright artwork and furniture bring the property to life. It's about five minutes from Russell Town Centre, which has a rich history and New Zealand's oldest operating restaurant. It was one of the most magical places I've stayed. I'll be back to soak in the spa perched on the cliff edge.

The team at Donkey Bay Inn made our stay unforgettable. Amelia, Brooke, Rosa, and Tracey looked after us so well, with wonderful breakfasts, rides to dinner in the Rolls Royce and countless little things we may or may not have noticed. They were happy, attentive hosts, and helped make my wife's 50th birthday celebration truly magical. We spent three nights in what felt like an epic hidden hideaway from the moment we were welcomed at the door. The lodge is stunning, and words can't do justice to its beauty, scale, art or views. Somehow all that design and luxury still feels like being at home. Would we come back? Yes. We booked for August before we left. Thanks DBI, we'll see you all soon.
