It was a comfortable, no-frills place for two brothers to share. We had the usual essentials, including a fridge and plugs, comfy beds, and a good shower. It suited us fine since we only needed somewhere to sleep, and you can bring a pet too.

The pub has had a renovation, which was a nice surprise. Prices are good, and it’s a great spot for a meal, a beer, and watching the races.

The locals were super friendly, and the bartender made us feel welcome. We stopped in for dinner while on holiday and had the beef schnitzel, which was delicious. The beers were nicely chilled too. I’m fond of these older pubs and hope places like this keep going. We look forward to coming back.

We found the motels good value, clean and warm, with comfortable beds. They’re small studio units, as others have mentioned, and there are no cooking facilities. Still, the fridge, toaster, electric jug, crockery, and utensils were enough for us to make and eat a continental breakfast. Daily servicing meant we didn’t have to worry about washing dishes. The ensuite was adequate too. The main drawbacks were having just one chair and no table to eat at. We made do, though I suggested fold-up chairs and TV trays that could be kept in the roomy wardrobe. For meals, the hotel is right next door and serves good pub food at reasonable prices. My wife and I stayed three nights, and we’ll certainly stay again when we’re next in Dunedin.
