I appreciated having a kitchenette and access to laundry. A wash cost $4 per load, and drying was $1 for each 10 minutes. The room was spacious and clean, the bed fairly comfortable, and most of the dishes were clean. The staff I spoke with were friendly and helpful. Since it’s a motel right on the road, passing traffic woke me early both mornings. The glass wall faces the parking lot, and the kitchenette window curtain didn’t cover the whole window, so I didn’t feel very private.

Our family unit had everything we needed in the kitchen, including a full-sized fridge and freezer and an oven. We could park right outside the motel. The staff were excellent and friendly, and we had a great stay at Pinewood Motels. I’d definitely recommend it.

We stayed one night recently, and the unit itself was fine. What made the place feel unfriendly was all the signs listing rules. Guests know they’ll be charged if they break things through misuse, so the warnings seem unnecessary. In over two weeks on the South Island, staying at many motels, I hadn’t seen signs like these. Not in Australia or the US either.

We pulled in because the hotel was close to town and showed vacancies. There was a note on the door with a phone number, and Karla was fantastic. She got us checked into the last room in no time. It’s handy for town and the pie shop. The shower was good, the heat pump worked well, and the bed was comfy.
