We had to stay put because, with the place so remote and our children and elderly parent with us, moving somewhere else at short notice wasn't realistic. The room and property were filthy, with poor basic hygiene, bed bugs, spiders, and so many mosquitoes that neither night allowed us to sleep properly. I came away with severe bites and a swollen leg, and my wife, young children, and elderly mother were all distressed and uncomfortable. This was a serious failure of cleanliness, pest control, and guest safety, not a matter of wanting luxury. Families shouldn't be hosted in a property in this state. I strongly advise other travellers, especially families, to stay elsewhere. We were at Chateau Backpackers & Motels from 25-27 January, and it was one of our worst accommodation experiences.

The complimentary food and drinks were a lovely surprise: homemade scones and a coffee station with syrup in the morning, plus afternoon tea and a homemade treat later in the day. There was also free coffee, tea, oats, pasta, and rice in the shared kitchen. Our private room was spacious and really nice for the price. Great value, and absolutely worth it.

Chris made our night at the Chateau Backpares & Motel a great one. He clearly puts a lot of care and passion into the place, and his tips were really useful. Our studio was quite cheap, too. Thanks for a lovely stay, we'd definitely come back for longer.

We'd already checked out when the rain started pouring, and the owner let us stay and relax there for the day. It was such a kind, no-pressure gesture, and the place has a genuinely laid-back feel. Chateau Backpackers gave us more than a bed that day, it showed real humanity. If you get caught in the rain, you might even enjoy being stuck there. Highly recommend.

The receptionist was really kind and even talked me through the weather ahead. I spent two nights in a dorm and had a great stay. It's very cheap, with a gym, a nice outdoor area, laundry, and everything needed to cook, including free rice, pasta, and oats. Close to walks, too. I'd recommend it 100%, so don't hesitate to book.
