Terrace Motel

My partner and I had an amazing stay here a few years ago, but this visit wasn’t good. We asked about upgrading and were happy to pay more. They said no because the motel was fully booked, which would have been fine, except it looked empty and those rooms seemed unoccupied while we were there. We also asked the front office to service our room since there was no service card for the door. They said no problem, but when we came back four hours later nothing had been done. The service was bad, so we won’t be back.

The corner motel room had excellent views of the snow-covered mountain from inside and outside. It was spacious for our family of three, with a double bed and a single bed by the window, a decent-sized kitchen and an electric fireplace that kept the room very warm. It was otherwise a comfortable, relaxing stay. A few things kept it from getting a full star rating. The shower had very low pressure and the water was either very hot or cool. The paid laundry was a long walk away, had no soap, and you had to go to reception to buy some. There were no baskets or bags to carry clothes that distance. The internet was very sketchy, though I’m not sure if that was specific to this hotel or a wider issue.

We stayed four nights, and the view kept changing with the clouds and sunshine. It was breathtaking from our window. After 10 days in North Ireland and 20 days on the South Island, these were the best beds and pillows we'd had on the trip.

Alan was a friendly, helpful host who knew the area well. The unit was spotless, and its position worked really well: quiet because it's set back from the main road, but still an easy walk to the main shops, bars and restaurants. I had four nights here and was very happy. I'll come back.
