Grumpy's Geraldine Kiwi Holiday Park

We’re simple travellers, and this holiday park suited us so well. Loved the cheerful rocks with funny sayings all around. The kitchen had everything you could need, though I’m not sure if you’re meant to bring your own pots, pans and plates, since we had ours. There’s a sitting room too. The bathrooms and showers are great, the laundry room works well, and the Wi-Fi and kindness were much appreciated. Best stay of our trip.

The rocks around the place are covered in witty sayings and little words of wisdom. I kept stopping to read them, and they had me grinning and laughing. The facilities were clean, clearly signed and homely, with hot showers and laundry included in the fees. That alone makes it worth another stop in the area. We were travelling around the South Island freedom camping and wanted a night with a flushing toilet, hot shower, and somewhere to cook and relax outside the van. This holiday park had all that and more. The owner was a delight, the most hospitable manager we’d met in a month of travelling. She was warm, welcoming, great to chat with and went out of her way to make us feel at home. If we come through again, we’ll make this a regular stop. Thanks for the hospitality! 😊

There are powered and unpowered sites, cabins and caravans for rent, plus a tennis court, swimming pool, pool table and foosball table. Dogs are welcome, and showers don’t cost extra. The park was clean and tidy, and the staff were friendly and so helpful. We stayed for 7 nights, loved it and will be back. Great owner, Andrea.

The bed was comfortable and the linen clean, but I barely slept. My small room had paper-thin walls, and inconsiderate neighbours had their TV blaring all night. The campground is on the main highway, so traffic noise was annoying too. The room itself was very basic. One of the kitchen ovens was filthy and the other didn’t work. The manager/owner was friendly enough, but I wouldn’t stay here again.
