Hewling's Manor

We had a very comfortable bed and a nice breakfast included in the stay. The house has beautiful gardens and lots of interesting artifacts, and you can walk into Geraldine, though the road is short and steep. It was a great start to our tour of the central South Island, with a warm welcome and a homely feel. We had pretty much everything we needed in a lovely setting, and our mini schnauzer was welcome too. Thanks for the hospitality, we'd definitely come back.

It's a dog-friendly place, and the owner's dog is very calm. The villa is quiet on the edge of town, but shops and museums are still within walking distance. The pleasant bedroom and sun deck are joined by a lounge, a lovely old-style wood-panelled bathroom, and a breakfast room with a fridge. There's a lot in the rooms: some items are attractive, but the bedroom feels cluttered, with every surface covered in decorative and antique pieces and no room to put your own things. The old villa is beautifully clean, and you can see how much work has gone into both the inside and the garden.

We had the bedroom and a huge lounge to ourselves, with a view over the beautiful, large garden. It was nice to stay in someone's home in this quiet, pretty town, with walks to the main road and countryside right nearby.

Julie made our overnight stay relaxing and enjoyable, and went well beyond what we expected. The accommodation was clean, quiet and comfortable, with ample afternoon tea and breakfast, plus off-street parking. The B&B is tucked into a beautiful garden yet still close to the township.
