Heartland Hotel Haast

We ate at the restaurant and really enjoyed the reasonably priced, generous meals. I’m grateful to have found such a lovely place that accepts pets. We booked a pet-friendly room and were pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful extras: a soft pet bed, a rope toy and a chew bar. Our dog felt pretty special. The room was well laid out, with a double and single bed, a coffee and tea setup tucked into a cupboard, and a wee fridge. The shower had terrific pressure and lots of hot water. My only grizzle was the heavy use of some kind of deodoriser. The smell had soaked into the bedding so much it felt like we were eating it. Even with the doors and windows open, we couldn’t clear it. Still, a very enjoyable stay.

We enjoyed the meals especially, and the room had everything you’d expect. The step up into the shower was too big, though, and the fan was noisy. We liked having a dual-pedal bin for separating rubbish.

It’s an old-school motel, but the rooms are spotless, fresh-smelling and have comfortable beds. I’m quite particular about cleanliness, and even the shower curtain was clean and fresh. The views are lovely, and my partner enjoyed dinner in the dining room. I’ve stayed in “better” hotels that fell short, but I don’t really have anything bad to say about this place. If you’re after somewhere clean, comfortable and welcoming, I’d book here. Thanks for having us.

I was here for one night because of work. The staff were courteous and helpful, and there was plenty of parking. The building is on the outskirts of town, and while it and the interior fittings are a bit dated, everything was clean and well maintained. Breakfast buffet was enjoyable, though nothing exceptional. A helicopter seems to land next to the motel overnight, which can make a brief noise in the evening.
