Heritage Park Lodge

Lisa and Daryl are wonderful hosts, and their cozy rooms make you feel right at home. We had bad luck with the weather and unexpectedly stayed a couple of nights at Heritage Park Lodge. Their kindness turned what could have been a downer on our trip into a warm experience we’ll always remember. A charming motel and a great place to stay in Haast. Thank you from Brisbane, Australia!

We had trouble with our van and couldn’t reach the campsite we’d planned to stay at. Once the car issue was sorted, we looked for somewhere nearby with space and arrived here around 10 pm. I know that’s late, but reception was still open and the lights were on, so my partner went in to ask about staying the night. The manager or owner immediately spoke rudely to him and asked how he’d got there. My partner apologised, explained the door was open, and politely asked if there were any vacancies. Despite the big “Vacancy” sign outside, the man rudely said he had “nothing available at this hour.” My partner asked if he could suggest anywhere nearby that might have room. He replied, “I don’t have anything for you. Drive around.” That behaviour was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. I’d recommend finding somewhere else to stay.

The unit had a nice view of the park until a guest from another unit parked in front of our wide patio door and blocked it. The owners should tell guests to park by their own unit or somewhere else on the property that doesn’t block other guests’ views. At bedtime, we could hear someone in the next unit snoring. I’ve never had that happen in a hotel before. It was clean, but old and cramped. The bathroom needs a complete overhaul, and the sink looked filthy even when clean. WiFi was almost useless, the TV apps froze, and the small TV was mounted high in a ceiling corner. One night was enough. We couldn’t stand staying another.

Daryl and Lisa were lovely, so friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Daryl even walked us to our room and showed us what was included. It was a small room, but surprisingly well equipped. We stayed one night while travelling over from Australia. Thanks, Daryl and Lisa. If we come through Haast again, we’ll definitely stay here.
