I paid $175 for a studio because it was near the hospital. What a rip off. The place seems to be used for social housing, and I couldn't see any other guests. The room was very run down and dated, with a badly stained, broken sink and a broken door. The thin outside walls let in a lot of noise. At least the sheets and towels were nice and clean. I definitely wouldn't stay again.

For what they charge, I expected better. The place needs a lot of work, including a new kitchen and a paint job. A coffee table would help too. I won't be coming back.

Shabby Travel Lodge made for an uncomfortable stay. It was mouldy and dirty, with a strong ashtray smell. The light bulbs were painted red and blue, there were long black hairs in the dishbrush, the mugs were stained, and the hand soap was watered down. I was also shocked to find no smoke alarms at all.

Being close to Waikato Hospital was the one redeeming thing about this classic motel stay. The room had such a strong, strange soapy smell that I couldn't sleep there. Check-in and checkout felt awkward since the office was mostly closed, and the showers were oddly short.

The rooms were well looked after, and the owner operator was so warm and welcoming. My mum was in hospital, and during a horrible time, the owner helped me feel at ease. Absolutely recommend, especially for the great service.
