Eagles Nest Backpackers

At 2 am I'm writing this from the bed my boyfriend and I paid $55 for. We can only lie on top of the blankets and we're still sweating. There's no fan or windows, so the room won't cool down. I managed about half an hour of sleep before the “kids” down the hall woke me by running around and slamming doors. Other guests were so loud, and the room was so hot, that sleep was impossible. If there's a “lights out” policy, nobody enforces it, unlike every other hostel I've stayed at. At check-in, the host gave us a whole speech about washing our dishes because people hadn't been doing it. We were only staying one night and were just trying to check in. We know to clean up after ourselves, and didn't need to be lectured about it then. If I were asleep instead of boiling, I probably wouldn't be writing this. Please make guests feel more welcome, ask them to keep the noise down at a reasonable hour, and get some damn fans.

The location was the only good part. It smelled unpleasant when we went in, and we had a hard time even finding reception. The room wasn't well presented and wasn't worth the money. The next morning I woke up to beetles crawling through the bed. I'm really unhappy.

We saw a girl in the common area for the second night in a row because she couldn't sleep after being badly bitten. There was a bed bug problem. We had booked a room for six, and that arrangement was confirmed, but on arrival we were told we'd been split into two groups. Staff said the hostel hadn't really had that availability when we booked. We showed them Eagles Nest's response confirming we'd have our own room. He pretended to make a call, then said there was nothing he could do. Wouldn't recommend.

*Under new management* I met some great guests and had good conversations with them, but my interaction with the owner left me shocked and uncomfortable. A welcoming chat turned into inappropriate personal questions, then comments that my arms “looked like some of a girl that could give good massages.” I tried to end the conversation by saying I needed an early night, but he insisted, as he had already done once before, “if you would like, you can come join me in my room.” When I came to get back my $10 key deposit, he casually said he was surprised I hadn't taken up his offer, as if he really thought I would. Guests should feel safe and welcome at a facility, and I found those remarks careless. It's seriously sad that I have to leave a review like this.
