The rooms were spacious and clean, and breakfast was nice. Everyone staying there at the time was put in a separate dorm, so we ended up with a room to ourselves, which was fantastic. The people running the hostel were so welcoming, always happy to share useful information or have a good chat. Thanks for making us feel so welcome. Best hostel we’ve stayed at in New Zealand so far! 😊

Pretty good for the price, and the manager was friendly when we arrived. The place is in a nice central spot overlooking the clock tower. Still, I would’ve appreciated a little more thoughtfulness from the host, like pointing out where the tea and milk were or inviting us to watch TV. They could also offer hot scones or cake. The spring on the door by the kitchen and toilet needs adjusting because it shuts with a bang. I wondered what the noise was.

Room #3. This isn’t suitable for anyone who can’t manage stairs. The staff were super friendly and personable, and there was a kitty at home. The lounge was comfortable, bathrooms were clean, though there were only two stalls, and there were 4-5 showers. Laundry costs $2 each for washing and drying, and one bath towel was provided per person. Fantastic location, and one of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in at a hostel, with two pillows each. Breakfast had cereals, toast, several spreads, coffee and tea. I’d highly recommend it and would definitely stay again.

The receptionist was so friendly, and I felt right at home here. My room, number 3, had three big windows with a view of the beach and sunshine coming in. It was clean and really comfortable, with a family-like feel. One of the best backpackers I've stayed at in NZ.
