Lake Brunner Eco Lodge

The race-day transport was seamless, and there was food and drink throughout, so the whole day felt easy and indulgent. We booked the Kumara Races package for the weekend, and everything was organised so smoothly from the start. Brenda and her family made us feel genuinely welcome and looked after. The rooms were huge, nicely furnished, and had lake views we never tired of. The bed was very comfortable too. We also had fantastic breakfasts with lots of choice, and beautiful three-course dinners on both nights. They took care of every dietary requirement without fuss. It’s a lovely place for a getaway with plenty to do nearby, and our stay went beyond what we expected. We’d absolutely come back.

Brenda was lovely and ready to help with whatever I needed. The dinners were gourmet quality, and all the food was well above average. My room was kept impeccably and had a great view. There’s also a pool table room, a good library, and a dining and bar room with fantastic views over Lake Brunner. Such a wonderful place to stay!

The lake view from our room was amazing, and the room itself was a decent size, clean, with comfortable beds. The family running the lodge were friendly, and the shared space felt cozy. Still, based on other stays at similar prices, this felt underwhelming for the amount charged and the promised “5 star luxury experience.” The food was well below standard pub or cafe quality. The bathrooms were very simple, and the amenities and service didn’t match that price point. There was only soap, with no coffee machines, room service, pool, gym, massage service, or kettle, fridge, or mini bar in the room. At a lower price and presented more as a cozy farmstay or lake house, I think it could be a good option. As it is, there isn’t enough quality here compared with other choices at a similar cost.

The remote setting was our favourite part, with the comfortable lodge, great food, and very attentive host close behind. The after-dinner glowworm walk stood out, and the rain made it even more memorable. We also loved the boardwalk, where I saw my first NZ Fernbird. We hope to come back soon. Thanks, Brenda.
