The views over Kerikeri Creek were beautiful, and we wished our three days at The Carriage House in February had been longer. Adrian made us feel at home and shared plenty of tips about the area. The spacious accommodation was comfortable, and seeing his restored early 20th-century Rolls-Royces and 1930 Vauxhall was an added treat. I’d happily recommend a stay here to friends.

We slept so well in the comfortable beds and pillows, with the quiet countryside and a lovely harbour view to wake up to. Adrian was a gracious host. We enjoyed hearing his stories and personal history, and appreciated his advice on nearby attractions and the best beaches. He also let us wander through the gardens, see his home and admire his classic cars. The Carriage House itself was bright, airy, spacious, spotless and beautifully furnished, with everything a traveller would need. Booking was easy, and the directions were clear. It’s about five minutes outside Kerikeri. We’re looking forward to staying here again on our next trip north.

Five nights here gave us a chance to enjoy the night sky as well as everything around the property. There are horses, carriages, vintage cars, The stone house and lovely surroundings, with all that the bay of islands has to offer nearby. We look for unusual places when we travel, and the carriage house absolutely fit the bill. The setting, house and host all make it a distinctive stay. Other reviews give you an idea, but you really have to book and see it for yourself. I almost never write reviews, but this one was an exception.

Catherine, who cares for the horses, showed us the tack room, including the original Lion brewery harnesses with their emblems. There’s also the original wagon and several others, and I loved the bright, cheerful colours of the Gypsy van. The horses are majestic and clearly treasured. The grey Shire mare is a stunner, as is the Gypsy Cob stallion. Adrian welcomed us into his home and shared stories about his fascinating life while we looked at the antiques. He’s a true gentleman. He also showed us his two Rolls Royces, including the white ghost, beautifully restored. It was his first car and he’s had it for 70 years. The property took my breath away as soon as we drove in. I loved the views, especially the horses in the paddocks, and the harbour view wasn’t bad either. Adrian made us both feel so welcome. Thank you for letting us stay in your part of the world ❤️

Adrian and Sylvia were warm and hospitable, and the accommodation was A+. The apartment was peaceful, tastefully decorated, warm, spacious and spotlessly clean. It’s just far enough outside Kerikeri to feel like the countryside, while still close enough to get to restaurants or order takeaway to the property. We were there for our Opal wedding anniversary and loved seeing the horses and carriages at work. Our dog had a great time romping in the fully fenced paddock beside the property.
