Sharing breakfast and dinner in the lodge was a real highlight. The food was the best we had on our whole trip, and the chef was so accommodating with my dietary needs. The staff were warm and thoughtful from the moment we arrived. Staying at Cross Hill Domes felt like being inside a real-life snow globe, just without the snow. We’d never experienced anything like it and loved every minute. We only wish we’d booked a longer stay.

Bok, you were amazing! She greeted us so warmly at Cross Hill and quickly got to know what we liked. Once she found out we were vegetarian, she shared specific dishes she enjoys at several local restaurants and food trucks. The next morning she made a fantastic breakfast, then asked about our plans and suggested hikes. We followed one of her recommendations and it turned out to be one of the best hikes we’ve ever done. The room had loads of space for our things, felt safe, and was lovely and warm, with a fireplace and heated beds. The heated bathroom floor was a great touch too. It was clean and stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There’s also a mini fridge, plus coffee and tea, and New Zealand tap water is safe to drink. Each dome has its own patio, which is nice when it’s not raining. Just keep in mind the lodge closes after 5 PM, so there isn’t a shared indoor space for groups in the evening. We had a fantastic stay and thought it was well worth the price.

Dinner and breakfast are served communally, so all the guests sit together. We loved having that chance to meet people and talk face to face in a world that feels so wrapped up in technology. It could be especially nice if you’re travelling solo. The room was thoughtfully laid out and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, including a memory foam pillow, which we rarely find in hotels. The shower, bath products, climate system, and heater all worked well. We enjoyed looking out over the garden and sky while winding down each day. It left us feeling refreshed. The place feels luxurious and carefully designed, just as advertised. We did hear a noticeable dripping sound at night that kept us awake for a while. I checked carefully and there wasn’t a leak. The property is in a quiet, lovely area, and we’d recommend trying it if you haven’t been glamping before.

The room had everything we could need for a proper glamping stay. In the morning, we had delightful French toast and drip coffee in the main lodge. The grounds were easy to find, with clear signs showing where to enter, and it’s about a 15-minute drive from Wanaka. There’s a secret sauna and Lake Hawea just a walk away, but you need to book ahead. We couldn’t get a spot on the day.

Peaceful and calm, and unlike anywhere else. The setting is stunning, and the staff were genuinely kind and attentive. We had a fantastic, really relaxing stay. A special experience if you’re after something unique and restorative.
