Settlers Motor Lodge

The bed was comfortable and the shower pressure was good, and the receptionist was friendly. Still, this was definitely a budget stay, more basic than I expected. There was no complimentary milk for tea, nor dish detergent or a tea towel for washing plates. After nearly five hours of driving, I also had to walk five properties down the street to collect the key. We stayed one night in March.

We were there in the middle of winter, and the small wall heater was the only heat for the two-storey unit, so it was freezing. We booked a hotel for the second night instead. I emailed the motor lodge twice and got no reply or acknowledgement. The rooms were dirty too: there were dirty dishes under the bed, marks all over the walls, and neither the oven nor microwave had been cleaned.

We had no choice but to stay one night out of the two we'd booked because the weather was so bad. The place was filthy, poorly managed and off-site. Mattresses were heavily stained, the windows were dirty, and the door was broken and barely locked. The grounds were littered and there were holes in the walls. The list goes on. I can't understand how they claim to be a 3-4 star motel.

The room was barely a 1/10 for cleanliness, and the cleaning ladies were disrespectful too. While I sat on the chair outside, they laughed and made snarky comments at me. I'm still not sure why, but they stopped when I took out my camera and started recording. The staff attitude was rude from the start. I paid a deposit, then a staff member tried to take down my Visa card details, saying she would use them to return it. That seemed odd, so I didn't hand them over. When I got the deposit back, all I needed to do was swipe my card after she swiped the business card. Who knows what charges might have appeared if I'd given my details? I wouldn't recommend it at all. Worst stay ever, and I don't know why it has 3 stars. It deserves 0.
