Airport Manor Inn

We booked two rooms for four nights at the last minute after our planned accommodation turned out to be in poor shape. The beds were quite comfortable, which we often struggle to find. The family room didn’t quite suit our needs for a NZ national event, as we were out early and didn’t return until evening. The kitchen was tiny, making it hard to cook and keep costs down, and had very few utensils, though staff were accommodating when we asked. Room service was below average: towels, flannels and condiments weren’t replaced. The spa bath was just a bath, and the shower head seemed blocked and could use a clean. Showers ran cold before we could finish, apparently because it uses a small cylinder. Guest laundry was a bonus, but the info book gave different opening hours from the ones posted in the laundry. The rooms needed dusting, with buildup on top of cupboards and along carpet edges. This motel seems better suited to people flying in and out than to longer stays.

The property looked quite different from the Booking.com photos, which seemed out of date. It may be somewhat close to the airport, but I wouldn’t stay again. I arrived an hour before check-in and was charged another $20, even though the room was ready and empty. Then they charged $10 for booking the supposedly free airport shuttle. When I raised it, they ignored my screenshot of the third-party listing and gave me a lot of blah blah about it being clear on their own website. Later I found they’d charged me and another person $10 each, after telling me it was $10 per load. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

I arrived from Singapore at 1 am to find the room completely infested with cockroaches, including in the bed. I emailed and called to ask for another room but got no reply, which I can understand at around 2 am. I didn’t sleep and left at 5:30 am. Once I got home, I called and the owner was rude and extremely disrespectful. He said they wouldn’t do anything to fix it because I should have contacted them to change rooms, even though I showed him the email and call I’d made from the room that night. I was charged $187 for five hours in a room infested with roaches. Next time I’d rather sleep at the airport. This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

The parking was good and reasonably priced, and the room was clean and comfortable. I liked the Sky TV, and the staff were friendly and helpful. When I last flew out of Auckland with my family, this place made an ideal base, just minutes from the airport. The shuttle was quick and reliable for both drop-offs and pickups, which made the trip much easier. I’ll definitely come back if I need to fly out again.
