O'Reillys Motel

The road traffic kept me awake all night, and the greeting at check-in was blunt and rude, which was very disappointing. I might have stayed here once without knowing what to expect, but I wouldn’t come back.

After a house fire left me homeless, Shirley welcomed me and my support dog. Her team were amazing, and the rooms were laid out really well and super clean. We stayed for six months, and I can’t fault the place. Thank you, Shirley and her staff.

Our room was huge and clean, with the usual motel setup: a kitchenette, bathroom, and living area. It was upstairs, so keep in mind you’ll have to carry your luggage up. The queen bed and other furnishings felt undersized for all that floor space. Unless you’ve got kids who need room for Lego, it’s hard to see the point of such a large room. More space didn’t mean more comfort here. The location is handy for Matamata and Hobbiton, which I imagine brings most tourists to the area. It’s on the main highway into town, though not in the town centre, and traffic noise carries through the thin, single-pane windows. The staff were pleasant, and check-in and checkout were efficient.

The room was basic but nice, and the lady who runs the place is lovely and helps homeless people. Sadly, I found head lice on the couch. I told the owner, but didn’t get an apology.
