Hotel Lake Brunner

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite in the smaller building nearest the main road. The historic charm and little details, like the old door knobs and windows, gave the hotel so much character. It was quaint and cozy throughout. We arrived later in the evening, but they made sure we had time to order from the restaurant before it closed. The food was very good, too. I wish we could've stayed longer than one night. We'll be back.

For two people with a campervan, it was $36 for the night after we'd been to Avalanche peak. Best value I've found in New Zealand. Great showers and kitchen, an amazing view, and really friendly staff. Super recommended.

The room my sister booked two doors down had two leaks in the ceiling, one above the second bedroom where the kids' beds and personal items got wet, and another in the kitchen. That room wasn't fit to stay in. When we raised it, the property manager confirmed they already knew about the problems, but had still booked it at full price. The kitchen fridge also kept leaking inside and onto the floor, spoiling a lot of our shared food that we had to throw away. They ended up using the fridge in our room, and at night we had to split family members between rooms, which was upsetting. We'd called to ask whether our family unit had an oven as well as a hotplate so we could make Christmas dinner, and were told it did, but that was wrong. At the restaurant, the steak meal wasn't worth what we were charged. We also paid to use the washing machine, then a cleaning staff member put a dirty mop head into our wash cycle. When we went to put the washing in the dryer, she took the mop head from us without any explanation or apology. It was a disgusting health and sanitation issue, and my white clothes were ruined and discoloured. This was our first Christmas together since recently losing our father, and we'd chosen the place on a strong recommendation. The whole three-night stay was deeply disappointing and ruined the experience for us. We messaged and emailed the owner and got no reply. I would not recommend it.

Our room was cozy and really clean, with a lovely big view of the Lake. Booking and communication with the staff were both easy. Thanks for having us 🦋
