The wind rod nearby made it easy to find our way back after exploring, and it added a whimsical touch to the location. Inside, the place has boho vibes and a fun, laid back feel, while still being clean and tidy. Our room had its own bathroom, which was lovely. Staff were exceptionally friendly, chatting with us and offering activity recommendations.

That TV room was such a good place to unwind, with armchairs, a convertible chair, a couch, and a big screen with great sound. The hostel also has a cute, cozy atmosphere, a great location, and very cheap rates. I was torn between giving it two or three stars, though, because some areas felt run-down and weren’t very clean. The shower was a strange setup, a tiny room with the head attached to the ceiling right beside the bedrooms. The bed hurt because I could feel the springs sticking out. And on our first night, noise from the bar downstairs was insane. It felt like we were in the bar, and we could hear everything until at least 2am. I don’t know whether the dancing bar or the hostel came first, but sharing a building was a bad decision. That’s a huge downside. When the bar isn’t open, the place does the job.

The staff were nice and the location is right in the centre of New Plymouth. It’s a super ratched hostel, but the prices are very low, so one night should be fine. Just don’t expect quiet, with the bar/night club next door.

It’s close to everything, which is nice, but I can’t recommend staying here overall. The mattress springs stick out and the beds are really uncomfortable, a no go if you want a good night’s sleep. There’s also lots of noise from the bar next door.
