Heritage Court Lodge

The room was very clean and recently refurbished, with new carpet, and the shower was good. The bed was a little hard, but I still slept well. It got stuffy and hot because there’s no air conditioning and not many windows to open. Menus for the advertised restaurant were in our room, so we picked what we wanted for dinner and walked down, only to be told it was for Chinese bookings only. Maybe that worked out for us, since we found good places to eat in town: Fat Sally's for dinner and The Brydone hotel for breakfast.

The reception lady was nice, but the stay was really disappointing. I was a bit under the weather, and there was nothing else available in town because of the rugby overflow from Dunedin, so I had to pay $285. The room was poorly maintained, with peeling paint, broken towel rails and mould on the bathroom wall. I understand it was school holidays, but the website advertised $130.00 for that date. I quietly and politely asked whether there had been a mistake, and was told the boss said they had to charge more than double the advertised price. Very disappointing.

The staff were helpful and friendly, and there are stores and lots of food options close by. We were happy to relax in the room during winter. It was clean and modern, and a really good price for two nights.

Our two-bedroom unit has its own private courtyard, and it was quiet and very warm inside. The rooms were good, spotlessly clean and had all the facilities provided. The shower was great. We haven’t needed to ask for anything because everything we expected was handled efficiently as standard. There’s also an on-site restaurant with good choices for breakfast and dinner. I’d recommend this place to anyone.
