Quarterdeck

The house was absolutely spotless, and the owner was friendly and quick to respond to questions. It has three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a laundry room, and a lovely, sunny, spacious kitchen and dining area. There were basic supplies such as teabags, spices, cleaning products, an ironing board and an iron. The couple of small milk cartons in the fridge were a nice touch. The nautical decor is thoughtfully done, with homely details, blankets and heaters. A ramp and stairs lead up from the street to a large sunny deck with seating and a barbecue. It’s a 5-10 minute walk to the Heritage Precinct and about 15 minutes to the main shopping area. Parking is on the street. I visited in winter, when there was plenty of it, but I don’t know how busy it gets in summer. The owner mentioned that the kitchen would be upgraded the week after our visit, though it was fine for one night. A few things are personal preferences, but I found there were far too many pillows. In a relatively small double room with little room to move them, I didn’t need eight, especially with six being decorative. Some of the bedside lights were extremely bright, and we had to hunt around to switch a few off. For a longer stay, note that two of the three bedrooms don’t have hanging wardrobe space, though they do have sets of drawers. A full length mirror would also be a great extra. The owners aren’t responsible for noise from others, but you may want earplugs. When people talked on the street or stood outside next door late at night, the sound carried clearly into the master bedroom and the one beside it. Even so, I really enjoyed our one night there and would definitely consider returning when travelling with others.

A lovely place to stay, with all the amenities and beautiful evening views over the Oamaru skylines. Check-in was easy and the owner was responsive. Awesome, actually.

The view was lovely, the location was good and there were nice restaurants nearby. All three bedrooms were laid out beautifully, with a lot of thought and care. I wish I’d been able to stay in the apartment for more than one night, and hope I get the chance to come back.
