The Turoa Lodge Ohakune

The bed was clean, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The room itself matched the photos, but the bathroom had mold and hair in the shower. The sink’s hot water tap leaked and was very hard to turn on or off. The room also felt off, there was a lot of outside noise, and we could hear people talking in the adjoining rooms.

The reception staff responded appallingly when I politely raised concerns. Check what you’ve been charged before you leave. The room was below standard for the high price: poorly cleaned, no kitchen facilities, a fridge on its last legs, and tired, worn furniture. Avoid at all costs. You’ve been warned.

The food options were $8 chips, $14 toasted sandwiches and $10 chilli, and they only just meet the alcohol licensing requirements. Even with the place half empty, delivery took over 30 minutes. The pours were so weak they hardly need a liquor licence. Don’t go here.

The beds were comfy, and the unit was clean and tidy. We arrived late in the evening, but the host welcomed us and had turned on the heaters, so it was lovely and warm. It’s close to town on the main road to the mountain. Definitely would stay again.
