Accommodation Fiordland The Bach - One Bedroom Cottage at 226B Milford Road

The manager was lovely, and the apartment was spotless and very clean. Those are the two positives. Otherwise, it was dark inside, with dated, cheap furniture, an old rock-hard bed, awful sheets and pillows, and thin, cheap towels. The entrance at the front and back was untidy, with weeds along the gravel driveway, and the lounge looked out onto the road. We were glad we only stayed one night. The owner wouldn't refund a night after a bereavement, even though I told them 5/6 days ahead, because I was outside their cancellation policy. I suppose that's fair enough, but we thought they could easily have resold the room, as Te Anau was packed with tourists. They also charged us to look after our bag, which has never happened anywhere we've stayed before when going on a hike. The manager wasn't at fault for the owners being mean.

Michelle was lovely, helpful, and welcoming from the moment we arrived, and check-in was simple. The apartment was comfortable, and we got a good night's sleep. Its location is handy too, with Te Anau's main street an easy walk away for dinner or a look around town. We had a great one-night stay at Milford Road Apartments, a perfect stop before Milford Sound. Highly recommend!

Getting a refund has been awful. For three weeks I tried to sort it out, but the owner wouldn't engage with me or Booking.com, and has now disconnected the contact phone. I'm left pursuing legal options to recover money for a stay that never happened. The owner didn't tell us there would be a two-day power cut, so on arrival there was no power, heating, cooking facilities, Wi-Fi, or basic services. The property was completely unusable, and we had to leave straight away to find somewhere else in a town that had power. The whole thing showed a shocking disregard for us, and the owner's avoidance and lack of professionalism are unacceptable. Do not book this property. It isn't safe or reliable, and the owner can't be trusted.

Everything was clean, we had all the amenities we wanted, and parking was really convenient. The water was hot, and the AC responded well. We definitely ran it both ways, sorry to the owners, but it heated and cooled the place WELL. Great place, and I recommend staying here.
