Ohope Beach Resort

We felt welcome as soon as we arrived, and the staff did everything they could to make us feel at home. The rooms had everything a family could need, including things we wouldn't have thought of, and the views on both sides were breathtaking. It's a perfect spot, away from the main strip. An absolute treasure, and we'll definitely be back.

We spent New Year's Eve 2025 at Ohope Beach Resort. It was clean, peaceful, and had lots of amenities. The managers, Kevin and Michele, were just the best. A great stay.

The apartments are nice and the facilities are good, but my first stay left me uneasy about families using the pool. There are permanent residents, including retirees, and it seemed like holidaymakers and residents had very different expectations of the place. During our week there in January, a man I believe lived downstairs would come out in the afternoons and tell people at the family pool to keep it down. We were in the apartment right opposite it, and I saw him yelling at children. I and others ended up in arguments with him. We let the property manager know at the time. They knew about it, as did the resident who confronted me, but nothing was done. Since then I’ve stayed twice, in July 21 and April 23, without any incidents, though we didn’t use the pool on those visits. I can understand the residents’ point of view too. I don’t know what the situation is like now, and this is just what I experienced and observed at the time.

The management were quick to help when we, as Americans, couldn’t figure out some of the machines. The property is very clean and well run, with a fully equipped kitchen, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and the supplies to use them. There’s a restaurant and store next door, which was handy. It’s also very close to everything in Whakatane. We were impressed and will definitely come back.
