After a full day hiking at Mount Cook, I needed a comfortable stop on the way to Wanaka, and Sierra Motel was just right. Boots and Jandals is a five-minute walk away for a good meal, and relaxing at the Omarama Hot Tubs complex across the road was a lovely bonus. The room was very clean, the shower was amazing, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It had everything I could ask for, including milk, tea and coffee-making facilities, and shower gel. You can see a lot of thought and care has gone into making guests comfortable. Highly recommended for a convenient, restful stay.

The outside looks a little uninspiring, but the rooms at Sierra’s have been freshly redone and are nothing like the dingy highway motel I usually picture. Mine was well appointed, with an in-room laundry, comfortable furniture, and a very comfy bed. The location was handy for dinner at The Last Post and breakfast at The Wrinkly Rams. I’d definitely stay here again if I’m ever in the area.

The staff are very friendly and committed, and the rooms are excellent. We stayed in a five-year-old apartment that looked brand new. It was spacious, clean, and well equipped, including a washing machine. The rooms are being renovated continuously. We can recommend this accommodation 100%.

The Wrinkly Ram next door is a nice place for breakfast, and we also had a nice dinner at the Omarama Lodge. I was impressed by how nice the rooms were. We’d stayed in four other motels on our drive down, and this was the nicest. It’s a great option if Lake Tekapo is out of budget but you still want to stay in the area.

Motels aren’t usually my thing, but sometimes you need one. Sierra Motel is clean, with nice bedding and towels, spacious rooms with kitchens, and laundry facilities. It makes a good stop on the A2O. My only complaint is that the shower is overhead only, with no handheld option.
