Jo and Marcel were great hosts, and The Retreat made for a wonderfully relaxing seven-day stay. Our room had a balcony overlooking the bay, where we enjoyed breakfast, dinner, and gorgeous sunsets. It was quiet, and we could see the stars. The bed was very comfortable, as was the living area. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils, pans, and appliances. They also gave us helpful tips about the area and New Zealand in general. We had a car, which made it easier to get into town and pick up groceries from Woolworth's.

The calm and rejuvenating stay at The Retreat was a highlight of our three months in NZ. Jo & Marchel were the kindest hosts we had. The accommodation was clean and roomy, and the location is superlative. From the back patio, you can take in the panoramic Bay of Islands, with shimmering blues and greens across the ocean and a glass of wine in hand. Life doesn’t get better. If you want to get away, relax, and soak up incredible sights, look no further. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in NZ.

The bay outlook from the room was beautiful, and it was nice and quiet, just 6 mins from town. The hosts were fabulous, really friendly and happy to help with anything. Marcel, you’re a legend. Hope to see you at the next festival!

We spent six nights at The Retreat and loved the relaxed feel. Jo and Marcel were warm and welcoming, and made it feel like home. The cabins have a chilled, retro vibe, and our room was spotless. They kindly provided freshly ground coffee and oat milk, just the kind of little touch that made this feel like our home away from home in NZ. The views were stunning, with native trees and shrubs all around. We enjoyed being away from the noise of the main streets, while still being a short drive from the shops and restaurants of Paihia. Thanks, Jo and Marcel. We’ll be back!

The bay views are second to none. Marcel welcomed us and was ready with advice about what to do and where to leave the car for day trips. Jo, your suggestion for the cafe in Kerikeri was spot on. It was lovely. Thanks to you both for making our stay memorable. If we travel to the Bay of Islands again, you’ll be our first choice for accommodation. Scott, Wendy & Simon
