Otematata's Best Dam Pub

The weekend party noise was unexpected, though earplugs helped and it didn’t go on all night. We had a very comfortable room and good facilities, including plenty of tea and coffee, a fridge, and a hallway microwave with plates and cutlery. The laundry service was very good as well. Dinner was a treat: an excellent burger, and the poke bowl lived up to what a health-conscious traveller would hope for. We got a warm welcome and clear information at our table after a good meal. We’d definitely stay again and recommend the place to others.

The room is simple, clean and tidy, just the sort of basic pub accommodation you’d expect. Don’t come expecting the Hilton, but you’ll enjoy this real gem. I arrived to find about 40 people chatting and dining. It’s great to find a country pub with a proper hum and good vibe, a hearty menu with plenty of choices, and chatty, friendly staff.

I’ve eaten here a few times and enjoyed the meals, but last night’s was exceptional. I ordered the special, mac and cheese with chicken breast and buffalo sauce. Brilliant flavour, and there was plenty of it. Well done.

Twelve of us came for dinner, each choosing something different from the menu. We were all pleased with our choices, and nobody had a bad word to say about their meal. We’ll be back in a few months and will stop in for another lovely meal.
