Margaret and Bill were attentive, interesting hosts, and the terriers in residence were dear and alert. Breakfast was made with care and more than most people would eat: light pastries, a mushroom and cheese omelette Margaret made to order, and incredibly fresh white peach, strawberry, apricot and berries from local orchards, not a supermarket. I rarely eat fruit, but this was lovely. After hiking the Queen Charlotte track, Kippilaw House was a welcome place to rest. My wife liked its quirky, somewhat vintage decor. We had the whole upper floor, with a bedroom, large bathroom and sitting room. Picton’s main shopping streets are a brisk five-minute walk away. We only stayed one night and wished we’d had longer to explore Picton and the surrounding area with Kippilaw Hse as our base. Highly recommend this personalised bed and breakfast for visitors to picturesque Picton.

We chose Kippilaw House for our 50th wedding anniversary and couldn’t have been better looked after. Margaret and Bill were so obliging and did all they could for us. Our spacious private room had modern facilities, an ensuite and a sitting room. We had a private four-course meal there, superb and as good as a five-star restaurant, with a very nice bottle of wine included. The next morning’s three-course breakfast was just as high a standard. We can’t rate Kippilaw House highly enough.

The hosts were absolutely charming, and the food was the best I’ve eaten in 30 years of travelling in NZ. Hearty helpings too, the three-course breakfast was awesome. Our room was large and airy, and we had a sitting and TV room to ourselves. They adjusted the menus to suit our different needs, including gluten free. Couldn’t have been better.

The breakfasts were sumptuous, with fruit picked straight from the trees, and the hosts couldn’t have been more helpful. What a beautiful guest house, with idyllic gardens full of flowers and fruit trees. We didn’t want to leave. A must stay if you’re in the area.

The people are so genuine, and the food is AMAZING, all homemade. Add the wine tours, stories and surroundings, and you’ve got a comfortable stay at Kippilaw House. Do yourself a favour and drive to Picton for a couple of days there. It’ll give you a more positive outlook on LIFE. BOOM!
