No 3 @ The Quay

Sheria treats you like family, and nothing seems too much trouble. It’s a unique, clean, comfortable, safe and convenient place with a lovely laid-back feel and great hospitality. I gave the rooms four stars so people wouldn’t be surprised that the dorm has no door. That didn’t bother me or take away from the experience. Forget your usual ideas about hostels, motels and hotels, and just relax here.

Every evening there are homemade treats, and breakfast is served each morning. Even with 28 beds in one dorm, it was quieter than some other places we’ve stayed, and it was easy to meet new people. We loved the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and the staff are wonderful. You can tell they love what they do and put lots of effort into everything. Can 100% recommend! 👍🏻

We only stopped in to use the showers and were pleasantly surprised by how well kept and clean everything was. For just 5 NZD, you get a shower, a towel, and a place to dry your hair and get ready. It felt cozy, and I’d highly recommend it.

I stayed at Atlantis Backpackers twice in September, once before and once after the ferry crossing. It’s excellent value, especially for travellers catching the ferry, and well placed for a wander around Picton. The bunks were comfortable and clean, the showers hot, and the kitchen had everything from hobs and ovens to lots of fridge and freezer space. There’s toast and spreads for breakfast, plus the owner, Sheira, makes dessert every night. That was a real highlight. The lounge feels especially homely, with comfy seats and a fireplace. There are murals, photos and letters from past guests all around, and even a guitar, piano and CDs. Damian, the caretaker, was friendly and helpful when I was worn out from travelling. The other guests were good craic and shared great South Island recommendations. Highly recommended.
