The food and service were both great, and they were incredibly accommodating with dietary needs. They also helped us manage a special request after an injury the day before we arrived. The view is amazing, and Lakestone has a lovely boutique feel. It’s only about 50 minutes from the big hikes, including Hooker Valley. We booked somewhere else in Mt Cook Village for the next night to be closer to the trails, but ended up wishing we’d stayed at Lakestone. It’s easily the best base for Mt. Cook.

Even with the mountains hidden by cloud, we had an impressive view up Lake Pukaki in the evening light. The lodge is off grid, yet was exceptionally warm, clean, and comfortable on a cold night. Everyone on staff was welcoming and keen to help, and the chef made amazing meals. We only stayed one night and wished we could have made it longer. Thanks to all. Dave and Liz Murray

The staff were attentive and went further than anyone we’d experienced before, and the meals were beautifully presented and clearly made with real culinary skill. We later found out Stefan had previously been a Michelin chef. The rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms were above and beyond. And the view from this location was the most spectacular I’ve ever seen. It was the best place to stay before leaving New Zealand, and I’m longing to return.

The dinner was Michelin-level, and Chef Steffen is a culinary star. Clarissa also deserves a special mention for her cheerful manner and outstanding service. The property, room, amenities, stunning vistas, and bathtub with a view all felt next level. One of the best places we’ve stayed anywhere. I’d give it a 6 if I could, but 5 is the limit. Truly exemplary.

The food was Michelin star quality, and the staff were exceptional. The location is breathtaking, and the room was first class, with a superb bathroom and its own garden. Lakestone Lodge cannot get enough superlatives from me. Well done to everyone involved.
