Cloud 9 Queenstown

We only stayed one night, so we managed with the tiny room, but there are better places in Queenstown. Ours was on the first floor, dark, cramped, with low ceilings, thin walls and no view or outdoor access. We could hear the neighbours. Half the hotel was under construction. The bar and restaurant weren’t open, and the walkway to town was closed. The whole place felt pretty uninspiring. I’m sure some rooms are nice, but I’d avoid the first floor.

The lake-shore walk into town was easy, and we’d definitely stay here again. Our two-bedroom apartment at the Oaks was spacious, freshly renovated and had a fantastic view. Renovations in block 3 were still going on, but we didn’t notice any noise or inconvenience during our visit.

The lake view from our rooms was beautiful, but getting there meant tackling a steep driveway with suitcases, then going through two lifts and a carpark. While the resort is being renovated, that route could be difficult for anyone in a wheelchair or with a heart condition. Once the work is finished, I think it’ll be lovely.

The views from the rooms at Oaks Queentown were spectacular, and we had a wonderful time. We’re from the USA, and this was our first trip to New Zealand. The garage was a tight squeeze with our large vehicle, which we needed for five people and all our luggage. In a smaller car it wouldn’t have been an issue. By the end, I’d become quite good at avoiding the columns. Loved it!
