The room was spacious and in a decent spot, about a 10-minute walk from downtown, but I wouldn’t stay again. At check-in, a worker in the carpark told us to get our key from the after-hours box. It opened without a code and had three other room keys inside with guests’ names on them. That felt unsafe. There’s no air-conditioning, just a small plastic desk fan. We found black mould along the bottom of the curtains, and the bath wouldn’t hold water. Although the room was serviced daily, the cleaner only pulled up the sheets instead of properly making the beds, and didn’t replace body soap or bath towels. When we came to leave our bags before a late flight, reception didn’t answer the bell for several tries. A staff member came down from the upstairs room where he lives and let us store the luggage in his lounge. The room smelled strongly of curry, and boxes of mini soaps and shampoo were scattered across the floor, so we had to step around them. When we returned for our bags, reception was unmanned again. We rang for 15 minutes and couldn’t find anyone, then realized the resident reception worker was also the cleaner. He let us into the lounge to collect our luggage, and by then the curry smell had got into our suitcases, which was disgusting. Parking was difficult too, with no marked spaces and barely enough room to maneuver cars in and out. It might work for one or two nights, but I personally wouldn’t book it again.

The bed and room were comfortable, and the view over the lake was great. It’s easy to walk into Queenstown centre, though the passing traffic makes for a lot of road noise. Cooking options are limited. There’s a frying pan, but frying soon sets off the smoke alarm, and the microwave is so high that taking out hot food or liquids feels risky. A few more plates and pieces of cutlery would help, though there was enough.

My sister and I had a fabulous time in Queenstown, and the room was spacious, clean and very quiet. The people running the motel were thoughtful too. We went to Te Anau for a night and they let us leave our luggage there, then moved it to our new room while we were out because we were getting in late.

The apartment was clean and well looked after, and the location was great. I especially liked unwinding in the spa bath. The pillows and mattress were five-star, and the big smart TV had plenty to watch. The kitchen was well equipped, and the price felt fair.

I booked at the last minute after my flight was cancelled. The room had a double and a single bed in the lounge, plus a small bathroom with a shower over the bath. The decor felt a bit dated. It’s on the main road into town, so it was very noisy during the day, though thankfully quieter at night. Still, town is only a five to ten minute walk away. You can see the mountains from the walkway to the room and across the carpark.
