Arawa Park Hotel

The room itself was large, comfortable, and the place was clean, in a convenient location. But the noise upstairs was constant, with kids running around at all hours, day and night. Other reviews have mentioned it, and I wonder if a family lives on level 4. It was very unsettling. If you stay, I'd suggest asking for the ground floor or level 4 to avoid the noise.

The room was roomy and clean, but the stay kept going downhill. The TV remote needed new batteries, and once it finally switched on, everything was in Chinese. There was no Wi-Fi in the room to look up how to change it, and staff said the TV was faulty. We eventually got lobby Wi-Fi and changed it back to English, but only local channels worked since the smart features needed the broken Wi-Fi. The spa part of the bath didn't work either. We were told it had been decommissioned for safety, and reception suggested bath salts instead. At $285 a night, we couldn't even get a biscuit with a hot drink. We bought plastic cutlery because none was supplied, then housekeeping took it away. That's another star off for service. We'll stay somewhere else next time. EVT loyalty needs to lift its game.

We'd accidentally booked Te Arawa hotel, thinking it was the place with a pool we meant to choose. The person at the front desk noticed we were disappointed and upgraded us to a deluxe twin room with a bath and private balcony. Thanks for going well beyond what we expected.

We stayed as a family of four, two parents and two kids, in early January 2026. We skipped breakfast because it looked pretty ordinary, even with the 20% discount off the usual NZD$28. We didn't use the laundry or room service either. Our room was on level 2 and looked out onto the roof of the structure below, with no view. The furniture seemed very old, with timber cabinets and cupboards that looked 40 years old or more. The hotel had had some cosmetic work after the ownership changed, but the beds were so soft they felt like a pit and weren't comfortable to sleep in.
