Birchwood Spa Motel

The room was clean, the beds were decent, and we had no real problems. We were in NZ visiting family from Australia and needed somewhere affordable but decent for one night, so this was the place we chose. The power did keep switching on and off, and our room had only a fan, no AC. Not a huge deal, just things to keep in mind. We liked our stay, though every experience is different.

The jacuzzi was a welcome way to relax after a long day of sightseeing, and the hotel was close to the main attractions. It was budget friendly and suited what we needed. The rooms were clean and serviced, and there was self-service laundry for emergency washing. The team helped with our various amenity requests. Call ahead to confirm check-in time, and there's a key drop box if you're checking out early. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

The rooms were spacious, but the bathrooms were filthy. There was mold on the ceiling, dust-covered vents, and the toilet hadn't been cleaned underneath. Door handles were disgusting too. We had a toddler with us, so finding broken glass outside the spa area was especially upsetting. There were also snacks left in the third drawer from previous guests. I definitely won't book there again.

We were there for about 20 minutes before packing up and leaving. The owners were easy to communicate with and thankfully cooperative about giving us a refund. The place had mould and holes in the walls, and the pull-out couch was hard as wood. Getting the refund and leaving was the best part of the motel.
