Arcadia Lodge

We stayed in the cottage, where the original features really stood out. Greg was great at welcoming us and had loads of local knowledge, while Peter made the most delicious, beautifully presented breakfasts. We’ve since stayed at five-star hotels around New Zealand and Australia, and Peter’s breakfasts still top them all. The balcony overlooking the bay was a lovely place to eat, and Arcadia Lodge was our favourite stop on our five-week trip in December 2025. It felt special enough that I had to write a review, even though I don’t usually. I’ll be recommending it to friends and family planning a trip to New Zealand.

The homemade breakfast was very, very good, and the welcome was just as lovely. It's a beautiful old house, comfortable throughout, and a magnificent lodge. The hosts are kind and friendly, with helpful advice for your time in Russell. Definitely worth a stay, highly recommended.

We got plenty of helpful suggestions for things to do around Russell from Greg and Peter, who were welcoming and easy to talk to throughout our three nights at Arcadia Lodge. Breakfast was excellent and clearly made with care. The lodge is spotless, very well looked after, and full of thoughtful details. We had a great stay and would give it five out of five. Thanks to both hosts, and we hope to come back someday.

We had such a good three-night stay, and the local tips for places to eat, attractions and day trips were really useful. Breakfast outside was a treat, with fresh garden fruit, a hot plated dish, plus homemade banana bread, crumpets, croissants and preserves, and the choices changed daily. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with lovely decor, big bathrooms and quality products. The views are magnificent. A real gem in Russell, thank you!
