Tauhara Sunrise Lodge

We ended up booking somewhere else after finding the lodge locked and dark, with no one answering the door or our calls. My husband and I had driven from Rotorua for our stay from September 9th to the 13th. The road sign and the house matched what we’d seen online, but we rang the bell and waited almost an hour. We tried calling the property manager several times, but got voicemail or an abrupt hang-up. Maybe our phones weren’t working properly because we were travelling internationally, but we couldn’t reach the owner either. The agency we booked through eventually got hold of the manager. He said he was on the property and hadn’t received any calls, which I find hard to believe when we rang the bell so many times. I’m not bothered about losing the money. What upset me was being treated as if we were lying. Maybe there was a mix-up somewhere, but accusing us outright is a new low. The good reviews had made the host sound amazing, yet we had the opposite experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Our room and bathroom were modern, clean and very spacious, and the bed was comfortable. The Lodge had a wonderful view and a friendly host. I wish we could’ve stayed longer.

A hot breakfast was a lovely way to start the day in Taupo. The lodge also has spacious rooms, excellent views and a fantastic host. Great place to stay.

There was a remarkable view of Taupo, Lake Taupo and the volcanoes. The host was great, and the place had lots of room and amenities. Excellent all around.
