Glendeer B&B Lodge

We really enjoyed our week at Glendeer Lodge. After working away, coming back in the evening helped me unwind. It’s very well fitted, with beautiful views from the living and dining area, and the hosts are welcoming and very helpful. It’s about 10 minutes from Timaru, off Highway 1, close to town but still peaceful. Google says there’s a surf club a 10-minute walk down to the beach. Work paid for the stay, but I’d gladly pay out of pocket to come back.

Paul took a friend and me to a spectacular stretch of back-country trout water in the South Island, with gin-clear water, beautiful pools and, of course, trout. He’s a top bloke, great to chat and laugh with, and an excellent guide who spots fish well and understands your skill level. He’s patient if you mess up a cast, even a few times, and talks you through how to make a better one and land a solid trout. He’ll go above and beyond to get your line tight. I’ll definitely be a regular customer and look forward to seeing him next year for more adventures and memories.

The rooms and shared spaces are luxuriously decorated, and the rooms are large and comfortable. It’s a very small, lovely family-run hotel, and we were warmly welcomed. The pet deer herd had several sweet little fawns while we were there. Recommended 👍

Jude shared some great ideas for stops on our journey and told us where we could see Little Blue Penguins. Staying here felt like living the dream. I only wish we’d had more time.
