Glenmark Holiday Park

The powered site was a very reasonable price, and the showers were awesome, with no timer. The park is quite original and the facilities dated, but everything was clean and tidy. I only stayed one night, though it was definitely worth it. The woman in the office was super nice.

The host was incredibly kind and friendly, and gave us ideas for what to do and where to go in Timaru. We had a fairly comfortable cabin for four, with one double bed and three bunks. The kids could use the pool and playground next to the kitchen. The kitchen was a little small but well equipped, and the bathroom and toilet were okay.

The rooms were clean and in a nice setting, and the owners were friendly. But ours smelled of smoke and an ammonia-type cleaner. After an hour we felt quite ill, with headaches and sore throats. We drove three hours home with the windows open and only felt better after that. We asked for a refund, but $180 was deducted as the standard one-night fee. I was angry that we had to pay because of their mistake. I assumed we’d get a full refund since the accommodation wasn’t fit for purpose. In response to the owners: Yes, we got a refund for the extra days, and the owners were very helpful. But the rooms still weren’t fit for purpose, and the rooms offered as alternatives didn’t suit us and would have cost more. We own accommodation units ourselves and would immediately give a full refund, without question, if a client were in the same predicament.

What a lovely place, and such a pity we only had one night here. The owners were really friendly, and the shared kitchen was great. The toilets and showers were really clean.
