The motel has a lot of history centered on trout fishing, which was a cool touch. Service was excellent, and it was exactly what we needed for the trip. The location worked perfectly for the Tongariro Crossing, just a 20-minute drive away.

The restaurant meal was a highlight. We ordered fish of the day and double lamb shanks, both cooked deliciously, and a young maori gir looked after us politely and professionally. The Turangi Bridge Motel is a handy base near the Tongariro River, with the town centre, shops, cafes and restaurants a short walk away. River tracks are close by too. Our room felt clean and homely, with lots of space, free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV and a kitchenette. The motel offers different room types, from standard rooms to spacious family units, and ours had the essentials for self-catering. It’s good value, with comfort, cleanliness and a convenient location for exploring the Central North Island. In Turangi, it makes a welcoming spot for visitors looking for comfort, friendly service and access to the natural surroundings.

The room was pretty run-down for what we paid, and I probably wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it. The front desk service felt very relaxed: she handed over the key without asking anything or explaining where to go. There was no Wi-Fi, or it would work for just a couple of minutes before disappearing. The beds were hard, wobbly and uncomfortable, and one base was from when my mum worked there, back in the 1960s or 70s. The bathroom door side panel was coming apart, the floor felt like it hadn’t been mopped, and shower water leaked out from the bottom onto the bathroom floor. There was no air conditioning.

We’re so glad we booked after seeing some recent negative reviews, though I have no idea what those people are talking about. The restaurant meal was better than what we had the night before at the highest-rated restaurant in town. The motel is well located on highway 1, with clean, updated rooms, a shower and tub, and a comfortable couch and bed.

My room was very clean and comfortable, with a good bed, a great shower and everything I needed. I ate fish and chips with salad, beautifully presented and far too much for me, and the whole meal and service were great. The view from the unit was lovely, with trees, birds singing and even wild rabbits eating the grass. I was surprised it was so peaceful despite being on the main highway. We’re lucky to have all this in our own back yard in NZ. Thank you to your team. 🙏
