We loved the gardens and all the little ornaments around the place. The cabin itself was compact, cosy and definitely unusual, with a fridge, sink, microwave and a tree right in the middle. Coffee and sugar were in the cabin, while teabags and other cooking gear were in the kitchen. Bring your own milk. We'd booked the two bed cabin, but it had been double booked, so we accepted the 'Tree House' instead. It's a very unusual space, but you need to be able to climb a ladder, both physically and mentally, and sleep up near the ceiling. The shower is next door to the cabin, while the toilet is across the other side of the main house, near the other cabins. In dry weather that's OK, but with the torrential rain we had to dodge outside. It felt a bit like camping! The accommodation is in Waikino, between Paeroa and Waihi, just off SH2.
It took a bit of effort to find the place, so pay attention to the address rather than the listing. There's no big sign outside, which might be a good thing. Parking was limited, though there may be more space elsewhere. My cabin was safe and bright, with good Wifi, a small private outdoor seating area, and just a skip and a hop from the loo, shower and kitchen. The gardens gave it privacy. It was all lined in wood and eclectically decorated. The bed was comfy, and there was a heater for winter. I stayed overnight while making a long trip north.
I was happy with my stay. The room was a little cold, but very comfy. I arrived and left in the dark, so couldn't see much, and had trouble finding the toilet. It probably would've been easier to locate in daylight.
The loft was my favourite part. We stayed two nights and it felt so homely, with a garden out front linking all the cabins. Amazing experience, and we'll definitely be back.
Such a cute, unexpected place, and what a delight. It was fun and relaxing, with gorgeous gardens, though be ready for mizzies. There's lots of bird life, and it's just a quick walk to gorge river and pub. Looking forward to coming back.
