Camp Waipu Cove

We had a great time, thanks Waipu. The beach is amazing and only a two minute walk away. It’s generally a very family focused campground, but we loved our stay. Our site was number 96, backed onto the beach side, so we weren’t surrounded by other campers. I can imagine it might feel different if you were surrounded. The facilities were fabulous, with clean kitchens, filtered water and dishwashing liquid. The showers were great, with NZ music playing all the time.

The stay was disappointing, mostly because of how rude and unhelpful the staff were. When we arrived, they seemed dismissive, and our questions got eye rolls and short, snappy answers. There was an issue with our reservation, but instead of helping, they made us feel like we were a nuisance. The website promised a relaxing getaway, but the staff’s attitude made it anything but. I wouldn’t recommend this campsite. There are plenty of other places with friendlier staff, so I’d look elsewhere.

Our premium caravan site was right at the back of the beach, which was excellent. It’s a huge campsite with large pitches for motor homes, and there are plenty of water standpipes and electrical hookups if you need them. The kitchens and bathrooms were clean.

The location right on the beach is fabulous, and the staff were friendly. The five minute showers had great pressure, and it was decent value for money. But it was extremely busy, the most cramped and crowded campsite I’ve been to. I saw security patrolling, yet nearby loud music kept playing from a speaker until after 11pm. I’d stay again, though probably not at this time of year.
