Stay at St Pauls

We’d stayed here before without any problems, but we won’t book again. This time, we reserved through a third-party agent more than seven months ahead. On arrival we couldn’t open the lockbox. Several calls and an email to management went unanswered before we finally got through. When we said we couldn’t find the room key, we were told there was no booking. We asked them to check the booking number in case the agent had used a different name, but management didn’t seem interested and kept repeating that they had nothing under our name. While trying to reach the agent to find out what had happened, we overheard another couple having a very similar conversation with management, though theirs was much more heated. Our agent confirmed the booking was at the hotel but couldn’t reach management either, and ended up placing us in a much nicer hotel. The location suits our needs, but after this experience, we’ll never book here again.

The bus station is just a couple of minutes away, so getting around Wellington was easy and cheap. The apartment itself was much better than the gloomy hallway suggested: roomy, comfortable, well equipped, and with great views. We really enjoyed the stay, and the owner was lovely and helpful. Would definitely recommend it.

I couldn't bring myself to sleep there, so the $149 was a waste. The room had a strong dusty, body odor smell, and the corridor from the lift smelled heavily of curry and mustiness. There were crumbs across the floor, plus homemade frozen food in the fridge and freezer. The sheets looked clean at first, but the room felt so unclean overall that I couldn't get past it. My parents had a bigger room at the same place and felt the same way. They also found coffee rings still on the table.

A supermarket is right around the corner, and the railway station, shops, and town centre are all an easy walk away. The apartment was warm, comfortable, and well stocked. The owner responded quickly when we needed something. It's very handy for the city, and we'd happily stay again.
