Burgundy Rose Motel

We were travelling with a dog, so we were grateful to find a dog-friendly motel, and the gentleman who checked us in was great. The room was clean and basic, with a kitchenette, bathroom, TV, queen bed and single bed. I might have been happy with it, but the mattress was so bad that my back was still sore the next day. My husband moved to the single bed because the mattress dipped in the middle and the springs dug into his back. He said the other bed was a little better, but not by much, and he's sore too. When I pulled up the sheets in the morning, the mattress looked decades old. I don't know if all the rooms have mattresses like this or if this is the room they give dog owners, but either way it's not okay.

The motel needs some TLC. The sheets were clean and sparkling white, but the grey covers needed washing. There was no vacuuming under the beds, soap containers hadn't been refilled, and everything in Room 3, which may be a suite, needed a wash. The shower was unhygienic, and the curtains definitely needed a good soak in bleach. If the business isn't busy, empty rooms would be a good chance for a spring clean. Robbie was very helpful and did everything he could to accommodate us, but there seemed to be little interest in the business, and I was disappointed. It's affordable for anyone desperate for accommodation. I hope the staff become more efficient. Laundry is available: $7.00 for washing and $7.00 for drying. There are two washing machines, one for the owners and one for clients, and two dryers, one for each.

We won't be back. The room was filthy, with hair in the sink, skid marks in the toilet, mould in the shower, and dirty skirtings. The kitchen, bathroom and toilet hadn't been cleaned. Paint was chipped and worn, and the carpet was threadbare in places. Two kitchen cabinet doors were broken, and we had to ask for clean towels. There was only one small armchair, so the single bed was the only other place to sit and watch TV. It was cramped for three adults and definitely unsuitable for elderly or disabled guests, despite being told on the phone when I booked that the room was disability friendly.

This was the worst motel I've ever stayed in. I booked two nights but didn't come back for the second. There was a hole in the wall behind the front door, and the place was very old and freezing. The duvet covers needed washing, and we had to put blankets on the beds ourselves. The windowsills were dirty, the room felt very damp and smelled of mould. I was so outraged that I had no words when I told the owner we had to leave. I'd rather sleep in my truck and will never return. I usually recommend motels to family and friends, but I won't recommend this one.
