The views were among the most beautiful we’ve seen anywhere, and even the drive up was an experience. You’ll need a 4WD or should book a taxi. There’s a lovely walk of about 600 steps for sunset or sunrise. The room was beautiful and very comfortable, the staff super nice, and breakfast and dinner had plenty of options. They even have a proper Americano machine. Just be aware the water looks different than you might expect because it’s hard water.

The views from this lovely, authentic place high in the mountains are gorgeous. Getting there takes care, though. A 4x4 is essential, and the drive is not for the faint-hearted. You should have experience with similar conditions. For quite a stretch, especially near the village, the road is bumpy, steep, narrow, and winding.

I live in Muscat and wanted a day away from city life, so I stayed at Sama Wakan Heritage Village. It didn’t disappoint. Spending time around the culture of the Wakan settlers made me think about simple living and what community means. I know those things can be found in Muscat too, but seeing the residents’ sustainability and camaraderie was an experience in itself.

A special place to stay. Keep driving to the end of the road, park, and you’ve arrived. The rooms are in traditional houses. The lovely staff prepared and served good food.

The old village houses have been renovated beautifully, and the terrace has great views. The food was rather bland, perhaps because it’s aimed at international visitors. The price felt excessive. I would have given it five stars otherwise.
