Boca Brava Lodge

Everything felt peaceful, and the place is really nice and clean. The rooms, food and drinks were all very good. The staff were attentive and friendly, and their service was outstanding. A very good experience.

If you’re after quiet, relaxing days, Boca Brava is the right place. We enjoyed walking across the island and spotting its plants, butterflies and monkeys. The transport to Puerto Boca Chica and rides to the boat tours were always reliable. The whole team was kind and helpful, even though the owner had died a few months earlier. Thank you for that extraordinary effort. Our meals were always well cooked, and breakfast was tasty. It was a special place to cool down and relax.

The restaurant food was extremely bad and unpalatable, and it made us feel sick. Staff were drinking while working and playing music far too loudly. The howler monkeys don’t come near anymore because of it. I’d had a great experience here a few years ago, with monkeys and nature all around and great food, so I decided to return. Under the new administration, though, things got worse. The “Delux rooms” are the same as the cheaper rooms except they have a private bathroom. The cheaper rooms do have access to a kitchen, but it wasn’t very clean, and the fridge was too small. Disappointed!!!

The island itself is beautiful, but the beaches you can walk to aren’t worth the trip. There’s no grocery store there, so you have to take a boat taxi to the mainland to buy groceries. Our room fell short of expectations. The bathroom wall didn’t reach the ceiling, so there was no real privacy. The shared kitchen was old, below standard and short on utensils. There were lots of ants, too. The owner’s way of managing the place left us a bit shocked. On the first day he greeted us in a language we’d already told him we didn’t understand, and he kept talking, probably intoxicated. Another day we rented kayaks without being warned the tides could make the currents very strong. We couldn’t get back to the hotel because the current was too strong. We called the owner, who eventually arranged a boat taxi, which was good. But after we returned, he questioned why we’d gone that way. I think it would be a good idea to give guests some basic information about the waters.
