The place was filthy, with dirty dishes, food all over the floor, and bugs in the kitchen. I never saw anyone sweep or clean the bathroom or kitchen. The toilet was in very bad shape, the Wi-Fi didn’t work, and there was constant noise from a teenager playing the TV at full volume. The service was terrible, and the staff didn’t know the city or even mention the market next door. An older woman seemed interested only in charging us. We were made to pay again when we arrived and again when we left. The first time, she gave no receipt and later claimed we had never paid.

Norita and Juan were fabulous. Juan, who’s in high school, also acts as the manager, while his hardworking mother Norita is the owner and operator. I was really touched by the love between them and by how kindly they both treated me.

The young man at reception was a plus, as were the outdoor kitchen and patio. But the place was quite dirty, and I didn’t like the location. Breakfast was literally one pancake, one egg, and four apple slices. They turned the air conditioning on in the evening and off at 5:30 a.m. The nylon sheets slid off the mattress easily and made me sweat. I wouldn’t recommend it. I’d choose somewhere in Casco Viejo instead.

I stayed at Norita's from 26 March 2019 to 04 April 2019, and I was highly impressed. Norita is a hardworking, caring host, and her son Juan managed the business after school. Over my nine days there, I saw her do the kinds of things a mother does for her children. I felt like they treated me as family, though my own shyness and quietness got in the way. I also got the sense Norita could party with the best, and I loved the stay. There were shops, restaurants, and a pharmacy right outside, without needing to cross a street. I only know about three words of Spanish, but everyone was kind and helpful wherever I went, especially Norita. Thank you so much, Norita and Juan.

Norita and her son are such nice hosts. Norita hostel is welcoming to travelers, with clean rooms and a great breakfast.
