Surf Break at Paunch

Dave, the owner, is a great guy, and the setting still feels close to the beautiful Bocas wilderness. Town is only about a 15-minute taxi ride away. For surfing, the island's best break is just 50 meters down the hill.

I came for the surfing and jungle atmosphere, and ended up already planning another trip. You wake to howler monkeys, cross the road to great surf, then watch the sunset with a cold beer. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully laid out, with a lovely open-air tropical feel. The food and drinks are great too, from breakfast to cocktails, and it's a relaxed place to spend time and meet people. The owners and staff are easygoing, friendly, and happy to help or suggest local spots. Whether you're here to surf, explore, or just unwind, it's hard to want to leave. I can't recommend it enough!

The lodges are spacious, clean, and comfortable, and Alli and David are such personable, wonderful hosts. Their tacos are the best, they can accommodate dietary needs, and the smoothies and coffee are divine. Breakfast was different each day. Their three dogs, Taco, Awesome, and Baya, are adorable and friendly. It's peaceful and beautifully surrounded, away from town but only a short ride away. The beach is very close, though the howler monkeys might wake you. Still, we had a lovely time, and I'll definitely stay here again when I return to BDT.

We spent five nights at Surfbreak and absolutely recommend this B & B, especially for couples. Alli and David were so welcoming and friendly that we felt like lifelong friends as soon as we arrived. Our room felt like a private jungle hideaway, with a big balcony where I could read, paint, or do yoga. The hosts had plenty of ideas for things to see and do around Bocas del Toro, but we were also happy to hang around the property and listen to the rain. Breakfast was delicious, and it varied a little each morning.
