The wildlife around Toucan Hill Lodge was incredible. We watched howler monkeys moving through the treetops from the refreshing pool, along with dozens of kinds of birds, including the namesake toucans, and a sloth climbing into a tree. Our group of three couples had the carefree, beautiful adventure we’d hoped for, near the most beautiful deserted beach I’ve seen in more than 60 countries of travel. The clean, comfortable facilities make good use of the surrounding jungle. Our hosts Kev, Sandra and Mandy were warm and friendly, balancing attention to our needs with giving us privacy. They knew the area and its people well, and gave expert advice about sightseeing. They also arranged our day trips professionally to match exactly what we asked for, without a hitch, except for the slight delay when we had to wait for a sloth to slowly cross the road on the way to town. If you enjoy warm morning walks along miles of empty, palm-lined beach, with waves rolling from deep blue water onto golden sand, I haven’t found anywhere as close or affordable as Toucan Hill Lodge. I highly recommend it for a small group of friends.

The owners were kind and friendly, and went out of their way to make our stay feel perfect. Toucan Lodges is exquisite, with all the comforts of home and even stylish towel art. Set among jungle palms and exotic plants, Toucan Hill Lodges puts you between the sounds of the jungle and the roar of the ocean. Howler monkeys, sloths, and toucans share the surroundings with you. We also went to the beaches and nearby islands, where we saw dolphins, starfish, and plenty more. It was a dream holiday on an amazing island, and the best location to experience paradise. There really aren’t words for it. Simply the best!

The waves are audible from your room, and you’re right by the beach, with the jungle all around in Bluff. Toucan Hill Lodges is simply the best place to stay in Colón. Sandra and Kevin were the best hosts I’ve ever met. We first came in July, then returned in August because we wanted more time in this special, comfortable place. It feels like a home in the tropics. I’m looking forward to coming back as soon as I can.

We loved the view of the jungle from our cabin, and got lucky enough to spot a sloth from the terrace. There were birds and iguanas to watch too. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was wonderfully hot, and the kitchen was well equipped. Mandy and David made us feel welcome, and we wish we’d had more time here. There are good restaurants nearby, plus great walks into town, to La Piscina, and along Bluff Beach. We saw monkeys and sloths while walking along the road. A truly special place. We’ll be back.

David’s local suggestions were really useful, and he even gave us a lift to the bike rental place while he was heading into town. We also took a jungle tour with his friend Cori, who knew where to find sloths and other interesting things. The stay at Toucan Hill Lodges was amazing, starting with David’s warm welcome and a helpful introduction to the room and area. The room was very clean and cozy, with chairs and a small table on the balcony where we could sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. We could see toucans from there, which seems to be how the place got its name. The bathroom was spotless and had hot water, which isn’t available everywhere on the island. There were lots of thoughtful touches: refillable water bottles in the fridge, a fresh water tank outdoors for guests, different colored towels so the three of us could tell ours apart, and sharp kitchen knives, which are rare in hotels or Airbnbs. When I come back to Contadora, I’ll stay here again. Highly recommended!
